National Savings Stamps

The National Savings scheme was originally establish in March 1916 partly to fund the Great War.
Originally ordinary postage stamps were affixed to a card up to the value of 15/6d and when completed exchanged for a War Savings Certificate (paying 5% interest!)
Later that year dedicated savings stamps were issued and continued until 1976.
The early issues were distributed with pictorial stamps as an incentive to purchase - these are also shown on my website.
